Revision for unsatisfactory results

As breast reconstructive surgery is complex, sometimes women are unhappy with the cosmetic result after their first surgery, and may require a revision surgery to improve the overall result. Understandably, this can be a very difficult time both emotionally and physically, as the patient has already undergone so much with her diagnosis, treatment, and surgery, but is left with less than desirable breast cosmesis. Dr. Macadam performs many revision surgeries for women seeking improved results, and one patient has been kind enough to share her story.

This woman first saw Dr. Macadam in 2009 following a breast cancer diagnosis and reconstruction performed by a different plastic surgeon. She came to Dr. Macadam in hopes of undergoing a revisional surgery to improve the overall cosmetic look of her reconstructed breasts. Dr. Macadam determined that this patient would benefit from exchanging her breast implants to a different style, and using a latissimus dorsi flap (an autologous skin and muscle flap from the patient's own back) on one of the patient's breasts that had been radiated, to add additional skin for an improved result. At the time of surgery, however, Dr. Macadam decided to insert bilateral breast tissue expanders, rather than new implants, in addition to the latissimus flap, to help stretch the patient's own skin to better accommodate new implants at a second stage surgery.

This patient thus underwent a 2-stage revision procedure with Dr. Macadam, and completed her revisional breast reconstruction process with areola tattoos done by our medical tattoo artist, Leah Grandmaison. She is very pleased with her final surgical outcome, so much so, in fact, that she decided to arrange a private boudoir photoshoot to capture her amazing results!

She has kindly agreed to share this professional photo with you (which looks AMAZING!!), along with her 'before' and 'after' photos for a comparison. Check these out below.

If you are unsatisfied with your reconstructive outcome, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Macadam's office today. Dr. Macadam is keen and dedicated to helping you achieve an outcome that you are very happy with.
